I'm not sure I totally agree with you John. But the message of a song is extremely influential. I don't think listening to a good song automatically makes you a better person but it definitely influences you same with listening to a bad song. You have to make the choice to do what the song says. Now as for me I the the Music and the Message are tied. Its hard to listen to songs that have lousy music even if they a good message. Casting Crowns' music is awesome (it pretty good for their style tho) but their message is tremendous. Then most of Hawk Nelson's messages are immature their music is awesome. I like a few secular songs (Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day) even though their message is totally wrong. The music is what counts their. That is why I LOVE Switchfoot, cause their Music is absolutely fantastic and their Message is awesome as well (especially since its like breaking a code to figure the actually message of their songs out).
Okay If I had to choose one I would say the message, but I think that the music is only a tiny fraction behind in the importance department!!! If it has a good message and crud music, like metal or rap, then it is a bad song and you should not put that junk in your head!!!! But if it has a bad message and super music then I would say that is a little worse then having bad music and a good song!!! But only a little and both are still pretty bad...
The bible tells us in Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things."
If we fill our heads with death, destruction and darkness then that will come out in our actions and in the way we treat others.
Maybe we should listen to more hymns and classical music rather then fill our heads with the garbage of this world

I have to say the music. If I'm to enjoy a song I HAVE to like the music. I guess its because I'm classically trained and they don't have words in alot of the songs I play. So if you ever wonder why I go around singing goofy love songs from Astaire and Rogers films its because I love the music- I don't care what I'm saying(as long as its not bad).
Don't get me wrong... if the song has an awful message and cuss words, I don't care how great the music is, I won't listen to it... I'll just re-write the words!

My opinion
I agree John. I listen to alot of different Genres. And the main reason its hard to decide whether hard-core screaming death metal is good is because its a wee bit hard to understand. As far as praising God with Rap, Rock, and Metal. I see those genres as evangelistic genres. Tho some of them don't have to be.
Soundtracks are awesome.

John: i agree with you on music having an effect on a persons life.
music does affect peoples choices in life.
there are actually some pretty grafic/nasty things people have done just because there was a band who sang about something. i read on 'plugged in", a very good christian sight, about some Satanic bands and the infuence they have on there listeners. I am not going to say anything i read, because of the younger kids that use this blog. but yes music does have a very big affect on the listeners.
Brooke, uh sound track are kind of boring... i do really really like the soundtrack to "The last of the Mohicans" it is soooo good!!!

it takes a lot of energy and very much talent to be ablt to pull of the stuff that they can do.
the most talentd style of music i would have to say is "classical"
eventhough i do not like it, i still respect it.
john: i have a tone of Christian Metal that is "good" and ill have to show you so you know that there is a lot of good morals in the songs. one Death metal band, almost all they song about is God/Jesus. they are a lot more obvious Christians than even most that bands u hear on ksbj.
Like I said, Death Metal and stuff is just alittle to hard to understand.

Ok, Matt. I don't think I ever said anything about metal having no talent or skill involved. I'm sure alot of those guys are pretty talented. So was Pablo Picasso. However I do not enjoy his work because I see no beauty in it. Same thing with metal, I cannot enjoy it because I find no beauty in someone screaming into a mic with people banging on guitars and drums in the background. Now maybe that is a small exaggeration, but thats what it sounds like to me.

Depends on the ear. There are a lot of things that are not pleasing to my ears that many people enjoy.
I love these little argument comment boosters. Whats actually funny is that for once the Boriack Bloggers aren't in the final 2 Arguers. They are actually watching this one. Amazing. Maybe its because of question. If it were on the Topic of Whether Hunting and Fishing, or Reading I'm sure they'd be right in the midst of the battle. That gives me an idea... >:)
